Fiber-optic gyroscopes

Abstract

Fiber-optic gyroscopes was discovered in the early 1900s and first demonstrated in 1976. During the first demonstration the performance of gyro was generally poor. In the late 1980s efforts were exerted in many companies regarding the development of fiber gyro products for production purposes. To data, the most recent gyro produced sometime in 1992 was the Ln200 IMU, the first gyro to be used in space.
