Abstract
The current scenario of the global halal market shows that it is a very profitable venture, as it is targeted to attain $3.2 trillion by 2024. This certainly signifies its substantial economic potential in various sectors such as food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, tourism, and logistics. Halal certification is certainly beneficial for boosting international trade and foreign investment, as well as creating jobs specifically for SMEs. This study is an extension of existing research as it analyses halal certification from 2003 to 2022, to reveal three main phases: initial exploration (2003-2010), increased interest (2011-2015), and growth (2016-2022). The market reached its peak of research in 2020, which further reflects its increasing significance. This research highlights how halal certification is instrumental in assisting growth by ensuring compliance with Islamic principles and fulfilling rising demand. The aspects covered in this study are consumer behaviour, certification processes, ethical considerations, and industry opportunities, thus providing insights for policymakers, researchers, and practitioners on utilising halal certification for economic advancement and discerning potential research areas.
