The history and development of the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park is inseparable from the well-known Le Riche family, although they were not directly in- volved in the establishment of the park. For this reason their history must form an integral part of this document. At about 1880, Christoffel, a son of the ancestor (Louis), trekked in a northwesterly direction with his three transport wagons, his young wife, three small children and a number of servants.
