The pharmacologic elegance of inhibiting cholesterol absorption and synthesis while providing a homeostatic balance

Abstract

The recent discoveries on the concerted role of several mechanisms involved in regulating the balance of body cholesterol highlight the role of intestinal absorption. Selective modulators of intestinal cholesterol absorption are available that offer a new pharmacologic approach to the modulation of total body cholesterol homeostasis and to a more effective reduction of low-density-lipoprotein cholesterol. © 2007 The Author.
