Water Quality Notes: Water Clarity (Turbidity, Suspended Solids, and Color)

Abstract

The objectives of this document are to provide readers with: 1) an overview of water clarity and how it is influenced by the presence of turbidity, suspended solids, and color; 2) an understanding of the importance of clarity from an ecological perspective; 3) a summary of methods for measuring each parameter; 4) the current state regulations for each in public waters of Florida; and 5) management opportunities to protect and improve water clarity.
