Abstract

This article addresses the theories of education, citizenship and spaces for citizen participation in schools and the territory; the purpose is to identify the theoretical models that explain education, the importance of citizen participation and the instruments of educational management. The main research methods were the deductive method, to theoretically understand citizen participation, social change and the quality of education; analytical- synthetic, to explain the relationship between citizen participation and improvement of education; historical- comparative, to explain the processes of formation and evolution of citizen participation in schools and the territory. The results and conclusions that education has a predominantly utilitarian approach; citizenship and education are articulated and indissoluble processes that determine local development; and, in the field of study, there are organized germinal processes of citizen participation that contribute to improving education
