Abstract

Efforts are carried out in Brazil to gather and consolidate data on environmental planning and disseminating scientific publications. Three projects are used to illustrate recent progress on this front. The oldest effort is conducted by the Tropical Foundation of Research and Technology. Its Tropical Database is an information center for data in biodiversity and biotechnology. The second is the Digital Agro-Library project, conducted by the Brazilian Research Center in Agriculture (EMBRAPA), the goal of which is to provide uniform access to agriculture related data distributed across networked collections stored in a 46 EMBRAPA centers in Brazil. UNICAMP's GEOLIB Framework, meanwhile, aims to develop a set of tools and methodologies to design and build digital libraries for environmental data.
