Abstract

The objective of this study was evaluating the pre-competitive stress level among athletes classified into gender schemas typological groups. The sample was composed by 80 athletes, 60% males, with age between 15 to 17 years old (16,01 ± 0,79). To classify the athletes in typological groups, the Masculine Inventory of the Self-Concept's Gender Schemas (IMEGA) and Feminine Inventory of the Self-Concept's Gender Schemas (IFEGA) were used and to evaluate the stress level, it was used the Stress Symptom Scale (ESSE). The results showed that the female presented more stress when compared to males and that typological groups differ in physical stress, where the MH presented the lower levels when compared with the other groups. In conclusion, the typological groups open up the possibility of studying the relation athlete-stressor event from a new perspective - the cognitive schema.
