C-reactive protein (CRP)—A diagnostic inflammation marker using selected indications as an example

Abstract

In the series “Biomarkers” published in the Zentralblatt für Arbeitsmedizin, Arbeitsschutz und Ergonomie, C‑reactive protein (CRP) belongs as a frequent marker in the diagnostics of acute and chronic inflammatory diseases. The determination of CRP represents an essential component in the diagnostics of infectious diseases. Viral and bacterial infections can be detected by the concentration level of CRP. The CRP has been proven to be a marker with a high sensitivity and specificity in infectious diseases. If the most different aspects of occupational healthcare are considered, CRP determination is justified in the field of diagnostics of infections.
