Abstract
Examination of most of the specimens, including holotypes, of Cabas sous that are extant in the major collections indicates the following taxa and distributions: C. centralis (Miller), Central and South America to northwestern Venezuela; C. unicinctus unicinc- tus (L.), east of the Andes and north of the Amazon; C. squamicaudis (Lund), u. intergrading with C. unicinctus along the Amazon-Solimoes and thence south u. to the Mato Grosso; C. chacoensis, species of the Gran Chaco; C. tatouay (Desmarest), a new from the southeastern highlands of Brazil to Uruguay and northeastern Argentina; and a larger, Sao Paulo. extinct The species, natural the taxa icaudis (Lund)and is presented. C. cf. history C. antiquus of the (Lund), from the genus is summarized, caverns lectotypes nudicaudis (Lund) are selected, and a key of Minas Gerais and São Paulo.
