Abstract
Background: Recent data pointed that IBD is strictly related to gut microbiota although less is known about the connection between oral microbiota and IBD. It is also known that dysbiosis can lead to oral pathologies. Moreover, microbiome changes under therapeutic agents' administration for IBD treatment have been described, including the identification of some bacteria as potential predictive markers for treatment effectiveness. The aim of our study was the quantification of salivary Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes in a cohort of IBD patients compared with a control group without IBD.
