Abstract

Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is one of the most serious conditions related to preterm birth present in the neonatal intensive care unit. In recent years, advances in neonatal and perinatal care have led to a significant improvement in the survival of extreme low birth weight infants. Some disease such as necrotizing enterocolitis became a major challenge in neonatology due/ to high mortality and neurodevelopment sequela. The incidence of the disease varies between units reflecting differences in clinical practices such as feeding practices, use of human milk, and antibiotic use. This chapter will discuss the main issues related to this condition.
