Abstract

Roads are the main infrastructure as a means of national and regional economy. The asphalt mixture in the AC-WC coating has several weaknesses such as being susceptible to water and often experiencing permanent deformation (change in shape) caused by too much pressure such as vehicle loads. The AC-WC mixture usually only uses a mixture of hot aggregate and asphalt, so in this study, HDPE plastic was added as an additional ingredient in the asphalt mixture. This study aims to determine the better characteristics of asphalt marshalls by using the utilization of HDPE-type plastic waste as an additive in asphalt mixtures compared to conventional asphalt mixtures. The test was carried out in the laboratory of the Kota Langsa PUPR Office. In assessing marshal characteristics using the standard criteria for Bina Marga and SNI, there are 7 criteria to determine the perfection of the asphalt mixture on marshall characteristics, consisting of Density (density), Void In Mix (VIM), Void In The Mineral Aggregate (VMA), Void Filled Bitumen (VFB), Stability (stability), flow (melting), Marshall Quotient (MQ). Based on the test results, it was obtained that 6.2% KAO was produced from the planned asphalt content (6.1%, 6.3%, 6.5%). The most stable asphalt mixture with HDPE plastic, namely asphalt mixture with an HDPE percentage of 12%, with a composition of Marshall characteristic values, has increased compared to normal mixtures so that the mixture has a level of structural stiffness and better water resistance compared to conventional asphalt mixtures.
