Abstract

Syringomyelia is caused by development of a cyst lacking an ependymal lining within the parenchyma of the spinal cord. • Communicating syringomyelia develops secondary to hydromyelia (dilatation of the central canal), which may, in turn, be a result of a hydrodynamic disorder of the CSF associated with hydrocephalus.
