Abstract

Multistep carcinogenesis: The transformation of normal to neoplastic cells is a process which lasts many years and takes place in a number of steps. Of these steps, many but not all are currently understood. Furthermore, exactly which steps need to take place in order to generate a certain type of tumor is even more unclear. According to our current understanding, the multistep carcinogenesis comprises the following stages. © 2011 Springer- Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
