Abstract
Aurorally-excited emissions of atomic and molecular hydrogen come from a narrow circumpolar band near 80° north and south latitude on Saturn. The aurorae, which lie near the edge of the polar cap region, are continuously excited in both the north and south. If the strong variations observed in the auroral intensity are temporal, rather than longitudinal, they may be related to the periodic structure in the Saturn kilometric radiation. © 1981 Nature Publishing Group.
