Application of open building design concepts in escape building Lambung Banda Aceh

Abstract

In an effort to recover disaster victims, the government built an evacuation building Escape Building in an effort to ensure safety and security if at any time the earthquake and tsunami disaster occurred again in Aceh. Disaster evacuation buildings often become damaged and not maintained due to the absence of other activities and functions of the escape building since the disaster occurred. The Open Building design concept can be a solution to this problem. Open Building aims to create building spaces that can adapt to the needs of its occupants. That way the building becomes flexible and effective for user needs. Escape Building Lambung is one of the four evacuation buildings in Banda Aceh. However, this building is not maintained and is rarely used. Therefore, the Open Building design concept is suitable to be applied to the Escape Building Lambung. When there is no evacuation activity, it can be diverted to function for the needs of other functions. From this research, the researcher hopes to provide information and education in the form of a disaster evacuation building concept with an Open Building design approach that is flexible and can function as another building when there is no evacuation activity.
