Abstract

Objectives: This is a protocol for a Cochrane Review (diagnostic). The objectives are as follows:. To assess the diagnostic accuracy of intraoperative sub-areolar frozen section analysis in identifying nipple involvement in women who have, or are at high risk for breast cancer, and are candidates for nipple-sparing mastectomy. Secondary objectives To explore sources of potential heterogeneity, such as indication for nipple-sparing mastectomy, the frozen section technique used, the surgical incision used to obtain the sub-areolar breast tissue, and the level of experience of pathologists interpreting the specimens.
