Abstract

The discovery of divalent conducting solid electrolytes has enabled us to consider several high energy density couples based upon these materials. Calcium has been found a particularly attractive anode material. Techniques used for preparing the polycrystalline Ca**2** plus beta double prime -alumina and cell are addressed. The overall electrochemical performance characteristics of this new secondary battery system are discussed.
