Abstract

In this article we present a mathematical experimentation workshop design based on the use of a video game and we analyze its potential to promote problem solving in the mathematics classroom. The theoretical foundations of mathematical problem solving and the use of video games in the classroom to promote mathematics learning are described. These fundamentals allow the identification of the essential aspects of the videogame to structure the proposal presented in order to promote experimentation and the resolution of mathematical problems suggested by the videogame. Evidence is provided of the mathematical experimentation developed by the students, as well as the type of discussions that originated, which come from the characteristics of the video game used and the classroom management by the teaching staff.
