Abstract

The writers describe their experience of serving the talented professionals, as the editors of The Reading Teacher while they are exiting from the responsibility. They muse on the past years’ realizations of their hopes and their priorities during their editorial term, and reflect on the works they encouraged in the areas including innovations in teaching those who live in poverty; those with severe reading disabilities; on academic or content literacy; uses of technology; and family involvement. They also offer some possible avenues to consider for future research, which include: professional development; student engagement and motivation; academic literacy; English learner pedagogy; and oral language development and poverty.
