Abstract

The aim of this paper is to examine the properties of repetitions, reprise and reformulations (called here, «reprises») in dialogues between adults and young children. First, we show the essential role of reprises in the unfolding and functional progression of these dialogues. Then we show the various functions that «reprises» can fulfil when produced by both children and adults in conversational settings. Finally, we will present evidence for a developmental change in children's ability to apprehend the relational nature of «reprises» in an integrated manner during the second year of life.
