Abstract
In healthcare facilities, designing spaces facilitating daylighting in the interiors and enhancing human comfort levels is of prime importance. This paper evaluates the impact of building envelope design on daylighting within a patient room setting through parameters such as window-to-wall ratio, and shading mechanisms. The research adopts a simulation-based approach within a patient room setting to analyze the daylighting performance of building envelope parameters and its subsequent impact on melanopic lux levels regulating the circadian rhythms of the patients. The results indicate significant improvement in daylighting metrics like sDA, ASE, and melanopic lux levels. This research would aid designers and planners in creating a workflow to design patient rooms in healthcare settings by focusing on daylighting.
