Abstract

In today’s rapidly evolving world, particularly with technological advancements, lifelong learning is essential for all, especially in the healthcare industry. This sector is dynamic, with continuous updates in drugs, diagnostics, and treatments. To maintain high standards of patient care, healthcare providers must engage in ongoing education. Primary healthcare providers, who are often the first point of contact for patients, need up-to-date knowledge and skills to diagnose and treat patients effectively. Lifelong education ensures they can deliver evidence-based care. Additionally, lifelong education is crucial for the general public, empowering individuals to practice better self-care, adopt healthy lifestyles, and prevent diseases. However, financial concerns, time constraints, and other barriers can hinder participation in lifelong education. In Hong Kong, initiatives like the Continuing Education Fund provide financial support to encourage lifelong education. This chapter explores the current landscape of lifelong education in primary healthcare, highlighting its importance for both providers and the community.
