Faced with problem situations are part of everyday life of the people, however, to resolve them it is necessary to develop skills and competencies. This paper discusses the use of skills and competencies in the school, conceptualizing them from authors like Perrenoud (1999), Zabala (2010), Macedo (2005), among other and analyzing Brazilian legal documents that cover these concepts. The methodology has bibliographical approach and intertwined problem situations and the theory of skills and competencies. These concepts enable the teacher to create new practices in the classroom by involving the daily live of students and providing new learning based in skills and competencies.
