Several distinct polarity complexes participate in the assembly of intercellular junctions. Two studies showing that some of the same polarity complexes are essential regulators of continued junctional integrity lead to a new appreciation of the relationships between assembly and maintenance of intercellular junctions and highlight unappreciated roles for endocytosis in these processes. © 2008 Elsevier Ltd.
