Interview of Dr Hiroyuki Nagasawa, executive managing director and CTO Hoya Advanced Semiconductor Technologies on the development of semiconducting silicon carbide substrates in Japan, is presented. He suggested that though silicon carbide are mainly being used for research level work, they have potential applications in domestic electric appliances and electric cars. According to Dr Nagasawa, Hoya Corporation is collaborating with other companies to produce high quality 3C-SiC substrates of a to meet market demands. Views of Dr. Hiromu Shiomi, Chief Technology Officer, SiXON are also presented.
