Abstract

Catalysts of the compn. of R2(CdX2Y2) and R(CdX3), R = alkali metal cation, and X = F-, and Y = any halogen ion or 1/2 CO3--, are described. The materials are effective at concns. of 1% (Cd basis) or greater in promoting the rearrangement of di-K o-phthalate to di-K terephthalate (I) in yields of 62-80% at 390-420° in a CO2 atm. I is also obtained in yields up to 90% from KOBz and K2CO3. At 320° in 3 hrs. the K salt of pyrazine-2,3-dicarboxylic acid is converted to pyrazine-2,5-dicarboxylic acid in 33% yield Cf.
