Nonlocal numerical analyses of strain localisation in dense sand

Abstract

An already available nonassociated elastoviscoplastic constitutive model with anisotropic strain hardening is modified by following the nonlocal approach in order to describe the spatiotemporal evolution of strain localisation in dense sand media. Both one- and two-dimensional cases are numerically analysed: a nonhomogeneous infinitely long dense sand stratum sheared under displacement controlled conditions and a homogeneous dense sand specimen loaded in biaxial conditions. The former is solved by means of a finite difference algorithm, the latter by means of a finite element code. © 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
