In the present article we investigate the scientific knowledge on volleyball. The goal of the present work was to analyze the academic articles on the forementioned sport. To achieve the objective four scientific journals were used as analysis source: Motriz, Movimento, Pensar Prática and Revista Brasileira de Ciências do Esporte (RBCE). The methodology employed was the documental research. Results were classified having the Physical Education field divided into three subfields: Biodynamics, Sociocultural and Pedagogic. We have identified that more than 70% of the publications analyzed belongs to the subfield of Biodynamics and relate to only one expression of volleyball, that of performance.
