There is a mounting worldwide interest in the therapeutic potential of bioactive peptides which collectively present a cornucopia of bioactivities for exploita- tion in vivo. Bioactive peptides trigger certain useful functionalities such as antioxidative, antimicrobial, antihyper- tensive, cytomodulatory and immu- nomodulatory activities in the living body system. With the needed research and development, there exist enor- mous opportunities to effectively har- ness these diverse functionalities of bioactive peptides for the treatment, prevention and mitigation of different medical conditions, and this can be a profitable commercial focal point of operation for the production of novel blockbuster products in biopharma- ceutical manufacturing industries. This article briefly discusses some of the potential therapeutic applications of bioactive peptides in the light of advances in general biopharmaceutical production based on proteomics and genomics.
