Piroxicam is a long-acting nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agent (NSAID) of the oxicam family indicated for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. It is commonly prescribed for ankylosing spondylitis and for acute episodes of gout and dysmenorrhea. Piroxicam is similar in efficacy to the other NSAIDs but has the advantage of a long half-life enabling once daily dosing and resulting in stable steady-state plasma levels in 7-12 days.. © 2007 Copyright © 2007 Elsevier Inc.
