Profile ring parts are used widely in manufacturing industry, aeronautics, petrochemical, wind power industry and so on. With the development of these industry, the demand on complex cross-section annular components is on the increase. Ring rolling forming process is an advanced partial loading and continuous forming technology to produce seamless ring parts. It has been well used to produce rectangular section ring parts. Compared with the ring rolling of rectangular section ring parts, ring rolling a profile ring part is more complex. It's difficult to obtain required shape and control the quality of the rolled ring part. Many defects occur during profile ring rolling such as inadequate filling, warping, cracks, fishtails and burrs. In recent years, ring rolling of profile parts become the research hotspots. In this paper, the present researches on the profile ring rolling are reviewed. They mainly fall into five aspects: 1) design and optimization of blank geometry shape and size, 2) profile ring rolling process and forming parameters, 3) numerical simulation on profile ring rolling, 4) forming defects during profile ring rolling and 5) new ring rolling process of profile ring parts. At last, the key scientific issues and development trends of the profile ring rolling process are investigated.
