Abstract

The combination of H5PV2Mo16O40 and TEMPO is used as catalyst to oxidize primary and secondary alcs. by O2 to aldehydes and ketones, resp. The oxidn. rates decreased in the order benzylic .apprxeq. allylic > secondary .apprxeq. primary. A kinetic study, including a D isotope effect of zero when benzyl-d7 alc. was used, was described, and a mechanism was proposed.
