Several techniques for designing cellular manufacturing systems can be found in the literature on group technology. Some of these techniques are based on mathematical programming and the others are heuristic methods. Most methods based on mathematical programming use a single objective. Also, the part routings are fixed. In this paper approaches with multiple objectives and alternative routings are discussed. Example problems are solved. © 1990.
