Recently, major corporations at home and abroad, such as Apple (developer of iPhone) and Samsung Electronics are on the lookout for successful business opportunities by launching smartphones, which are small mobile computers and phones and provide diverse services, and small appliances, such as tablet PCs. So in this paper, research to analyze business opportunity factors for smart appliances was conducted. To achieve this, first, through preceding research studies, I analyzed the continuous intention of users to use smart appliances and technological characteristics of small smart appliances, such as smartphones and tablet PCs. Second, in consideration of this, I have researched the Business Opportunity Matrix (BOM), the analysis to derive business service opportunity, and their factors. Third, in order to test the validity of the BOM that was developed in this research, a questionnaire survey was conducted on 100 users of smart appliances (smartphones, tablet PCs) and an analysis on their features was conducted. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd.
