This paper is concerned with the development of an analytical model to determine the subcooled boiling characteristics under forced convective conditions over a wide range of mass flows and subcoolings. This model considers the two regions of subcooled boiling: local boiling with stationary bubbles (high subcooling), and local boiling with low subcooling. The model is established from the heat balance across the two subcooled boiling regions. Various constitutive relationships are included in the model to calculate the heat transfer mechanisms in the two regions. In addition, the effect of slip is included in the model. Numerical results showed that this model predicted fairly the subcooled boiling characteristic when compared with those calculated by existing subcooled models and with various experimental data. © 1987.
