Abstract

The paper reviews procedures for in vitro maturation (IVM) and in vitro fertilization (IVF) of oocytes in sheep. Different methods for the collection of oocytes from live or dead donors have been reviewed. The role of gonadotrophic hormones, serum, follicular cells, follicular fluid and culture media in the IVM of oocytes are also discussed. In vitro capacitation of the spermatozoa collected from rams or epididymus of slaughtered/dead males and the fertilization of oocytes in vitro and the culture of the embryos produced is also reviewed and discussed. © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V.
