Welcome to Mendeley. The following is a short guide on importing references and PDFs into your Mendeley Reference Manager Library

Before Getting Started

Be sure you have got your PDFs or RIS/BibTeX files from your previous reference manager.
Then download and sign into the latest version of Mendeley Reference Manager for free.

How can I add new references to my Library?

You can add references in the following ways.

Drag and drop files

Add references by dragging and dropping a PDF into your library, the application will automatically extract the details from the document and create a library entry. At the moment you are not able to drag and drop folders containing multiple references, this will be added in a future release

Add file

Use the "Add New" button and click on "Files from Computer" to select a specific paper from a location on your computer and add it to your library. At the moment you are not able to select a specific folder to add papers, this will be added in a future release.

Import RIS file

Drag and Drop – Drag and drop the file from your local state and the application will automatically extract the details from the documents and create a library entry or multiple entries.
or...
Add directly from your computer – use "Add New" and click on "Import from Library" and then select the type of file you wish to import. Select the file on your local drive and then click open and the file will import.

You can also import other file types like BibTeX or XML.
