Abstract

Five new photochromic pyrryl-substituted fulgides, (E)-α-(3-pyrryl derivatives)-ethyli-dene(isopropylidene) succinic anhydrides, were synthesized. Their photochromic reactions were investigated in different solvents, and the rate constants of the photochromic reactions were obtained by the "steady state" method. The effects of solvent and substituent on the absorption spectra were examined. The photochromic mechanism of pyrryl-substituted heterocyclic fulgides is discussed using the potential energy diagram. © 1992.
