A method for analysing tributyltin (TBT) and dibutyltin (DBT) in shellfish is presented that places modest requirements on equipment and supplies. It is based on capillary gas chromatographic analysis of hexyl derivatives of any extractable organotin species present. Two internal standards are used. Data are presented showing that the precision and accuracy of the method are generally better than ±20%. © 1989.
