Abstract

The effect of various heat treatments on BaSO4 (60 mole per cent)/CaSO4 (40 mole per cent) was studied by i.r. spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. Under specific conditions a solid solution of the above composition, isotypic (isostructural) with BaSO4 (barite) was found to occur. X-ray diffraction analysis gave the following unit cell parameters: a = 8·480 ± 0·009, b = 5·397 ± 0·008 and c = 6·965 ± 0·008 A ̊. © 1970.
