Abstract

A brief review of current and past work in the field of polymer and composites tribology is presented. Particular attention is given to film transfer, surface temperature, surface topography, surface layers, surface treatments, degradation, polymerisation and cross-linking effects. It is concluded that the chemical processes and phenomena associated with plastics in "wearing" applications are important technologically. However, as yet, they are little understood and some areas for further research are proposed and discussed. © 1971.
