A high-density electron-hole system in one dimension is studied theoretically. Competition between the exciton Bose condensation and other Fermi-surface instabilities is clarified within a framework of the two-band g-ology. There is a parameter region where unconventional interband Cooper pairing with nonzero total momentum occurs. Optical spectra yield the Fermi-edge singularity resulting from the exciton condensation. Effects of backward scattering and random potential are also discussed. © 1993.
