Measurements were made of the viscosity, density, and electrical conductivity of high temperature solutions of metal oxides, especially Fe2O3and Ga2O3, in PbO. Combination of the Stokes-Einstein and the Nernst-Einstein equations allows the computation of the electrical conductivity. When it is assumed that the solutes are present as MeO3-2xx, xeffcan be obtained by comparison of the experimental and calculated values of the electrical conductivity. In dependence on the concentration of the solute and hence the concentration of the oxygen ions, the coordination number x of the real species must be changed. The results of model computations assuming equilibrium reactions are given. © 1981.
