Exact derivation of the Van der Waals equation

Abstract

An exact derivation is given of a generalized Van der Waals-Maxwell equation of state for systems of particles interacting with appropriate long-range potentials. A rigorous statistical- mechanical interpretation of the metastable states of these systems is also given. © 1974.
