Abstract

Photocatalytic carbonylation of benzene in the presence of RhCl(CO)(PMe3)2 (I) proceeded much more effectively with XeCl laser radiation at 308 nm than with XeF at 351 nm. In the case of cyclooctane dehydrogenation, the shorter wavelength was less effective. The dependence of catalytic activity on the no. of photons differed for the 2 reactions. Thus, photoexcitation is necessary not only for dissocn. of a CO ligand from I but also for the other steps, at least in the carbonylation reaction. [on SciFinder (R)]
