Abstract

The developments of petrol and diesel engines for road transport have involved a distinct trend in the use of oil towards obtaining high percentages of light fractions, by increasingly refined techniques and by an ever increasing use of oil itself. The purpose here is to try to understand, on a methodological plane, whether man, in any country, rationally utilises this most important natural resource as a source of energy. Also under consideration is the attempt to overcome atmospheric pollution due to exhaust gases. © 1971.
