Abstract

The metal chelates of some bivalent metal ions formed with 1-glutamine have been studied potentiometrically employinh methods of Bjerrum and Irving and Rossotti. It is observed that Mn(II) forms only ML chelate, whereas with others the reaction occurs in two steps forming ML and ML2 chelates. The sequence of their stability is Mn < Cd < Co < Zn < Ni < Hg < Cu. Further correlations are shown between their log K1 or log β2 values, and the second ionization potential, sum of first and second ionization potentials, ionic radii, and electronegativity values of the metals. © 1973.
