The reaction is reported between hdyrogen chloride and a series of epoxy fatty acid methyl esters leading to the formation of mixtures of isomeric chlorohydrins. Although these chlorohydrins decomposed during gas chromatography to form oxo-compounds, their trimethylsilyl ether derivatives were found to be sufficienty stable for analysis. The mass spectra are reported for the parent chlorohydrins obtained on a direct insertion probe, and for the trimethylsilyl derivatives obtained by combined gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. © 1978.
